“In vino veritas”

“Wine reveals the truth” goes an old Latin saying of the ancient Romans. They believed, and it must be true, that wine may favour one’s inclination to revealing things that wouldn’t be otherwise spoken of. The Romans took special care of spreading vines cultivation all over the provinces of their vast empire.

Yes, ancient Romans loved their wine and they made sure it would be available in every corner of their territory, from the western tip of Europe to the middle east. And, since the processing technique was not as developed as today and not all climates and territories yield the best fruits, they were enjoying their wine by often mixing it with honey.
